For our first exhibit, we present photos from the collection
of Peter Cohen. Peter — one of the collectors
featured in Other People’s Pictures — is an investment
manager and lives in New York City. He has been collecting
vernacular photography for fifteen years and currently owns about
6500 images. Peter searches for a wide range of subject
matter, including (but definitely not limited to) kids in pedal
cars, people in trees or standing on poles, ‘dangerous
women,’ amateur nudes, double exposures, blurs and other ‘interesting
mistakes.’
Visually, Peter’s photos run the gamut from the humorous
to the sublime, but all of them exemplify the artfulness — often
totally accidental — that can be found in snapshot photography.
We hope you enjoy Peter’s photographs.
